Today I’m participating in the Ultimate Blog Swap which is a a fun event where a bunch of bloggers write for each other, just to mix things up a bit. (It's also another one of those creative marketing ideas!)
You’ll find me posting over at In Good Cents about 4 ways to earn online, and I’m excited to welcome Amanda from Dillon Bailey with a reminder that life is a journey…and so is blogging. It's a great idea to periodically examine (and reexamine) where you're at in your life and your blog. Don't be afraid to change course to focus on what you love. Enjoy!
One of the greatest things in life is the realization that this is a journey. We go through phases in life — phases that refine, mold, purge and rebuild us into someone better. Some people fear this change. They hunker down where they are and refuse to move. But life is not stationary, and we shouldn't be either. We need to keep growing, learning, moving forward. When we stop, we limit what could be in our lives.
Recently, I made the decision to quit my day job. I’ve saved up some money for the future and am going to pursue what I want. One of my biggest fears is settling in life. I care deeply and fight for women in trauma. I love educating people about what is happening to women and children in the world and their communities. And I love helping people discover what they can do to help.
I’m learning a lot about myself right now — how I operate, what drives me, when I’m most creative, what legacy I want to leave, and what efforts I want to give my time to. It’s exciting, and something I could not have done earlier because it wasn’t the right time in my journey.
Life is a continual process of refining, growing, learning and stretching ourselves. Once we reach one plateau we need to move to the next. We were never made to stand on one mountaintop. You cannot rest there. You need to move back down and onto the next adventure. To think you’ve arrived is to stop growing, and that results in stagnation and decay.
Think about the one thing you want to do and go for it. What do you want people to know you for? What do you want to have achieved in your professional life? Where are you in the journey? What would you like to try that you’ve been too scared to?
What Amanda says is so true! Life is a continual process of refining, growing, learning and stretching ourselves. It's definitely true for blogging. I encourage you to apply to your blog the same questions Amanda closed with: What do you want people to know you for? What do you want to have achieved in your professional life? Where are you in the journey? What would you like to try that you’ve been too scared to?
Now go for it!

Amanda, this was a bright and insightful post! Congratulations on quitting your job and moving forward with something you enjoy. I think everyone, at some point, hits a spot in their life where they realize how important it is to do what you like. Life is too short to not! Good Luck!

This sounds like a wonderful opportunity and just sounds like fun. I'm checking out all the participants right now. I've hit that point where I had to ask myself, "Okay, seriously what were you thinking? Where do you want to be?".
I'm heading on the right track now!
Thanks for the post Amy!
Nice one. You made me reflect on how far I've come in "the journey" and why I love blogging so much. What would I like to try, that I've been too scared to? That's a great question. I'm going to write that on a post-it note right now, and stick it on my laptop in front of me where I'll see it every day.

Great post Amy,
I love the idea about the Ultimate Blog Swap! I started my own little tech blog a few months ago, but am just now starting to get the time to dedicate to it and build it…it really is a journey! Being where I am at I am really starting to realize that I need to define my blog better to help it stay focused and to help visitors get more of a feel of my blog so they feel the have it figured out, and want to come back.
It really is a big step deciding to change your blogging course, because it means admitting that what you are doing is not taking you where you want to go, and jumping into the unknown again. But there is no development and fulfillment without a little bit of risk right?
Thanks for this post, it's inspiring me to take the initiative to rework my blogging course!
Thank you Amy!
