How to Add Pinterest Follow Buttons to Your Feed

Pinterest continues to be a huge traffic driver for many blogs and let's face it, it is just plain fun!

I was reading How to Watch Your Pinterest Numbers Grow Daily by Michelle Penick recently. In it, she mentioned that she saw an increase in Pinterest followers once she started including the Pinterest follow buttons in her weekly newsletter. Not everyone has a weekly newsletter, however, most of us have a feed (and if you don't, be sure to get one).

If your blog is image-driven (or just has a lot of pin-worthy photos), consider adding a Pinterest button at the end of your feed to increase your Pinterest followers and your exposure.

Here's how to add a Pinterest follow button to your feed:

  1. Grab the code for a Pinterest button here (scroll down to "Follow Buttons" for websites).
  2. Use a plugin like the one I wrote about recently in How to Add Something to Your Feed's Footer.
  3. Once the plugin is installed, go to Dashboard –> TentBlogger –> RSS Footer –> and paste your code in the "Custom RSS Message" field and save!
  4. Make sure you check out your feed to make sure it renders properly the next time you update your content.

I'll be adding this tip to The Ultimate List of Pinterest Tips!

  1. Hi Amy! Thanks so much for this post! I was just looking for a way to do this. Is this how you added a link back to the actual post? The FeedFlare "leave a comment" feature in feedburner isn't working for my blog for some reason, and I was hoping to find a way to add that at the end of my Rss.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

  2. Hi Amy! When I was in the nuts and bolts part of Pinterest recently I saw that they have made it easy to add their pinning info to a website. It was great to see. And I used it to add the Pin it button right inside my article. Also, I did a post the other day and mentioned the fun I was having with PinReach. Here's what I said: http://anextraordinaryday.net/are-you-pinteresting/ Have you used it yet?

  3. Hi Amy,

Do you know of a way to add a "Pin It" button instead of a link to your Pinterest page?

    Thanks!

  4. Did it!!! Thanks so much, Amy!

  5. Hi Amy. I am wondering if this would be helpful in a feed since you can't see the images in a feed at all. You have to click to the post to see them. Thanks!!

    • Oh, you definitely can see images in a feed! I know sometimes they come through so that the images don't automatically display, but you should be able to click "Display images below" so they appear. (Is that what you mean?)

  6. This is awesome, thank you so much! I will have to wait when my next post comes out tomorrow to see how it looks :)
