How to Link Your Facebook Profile with Your Facebook Page

So have you noticed the new Timeline for your personal Profile on Facebook yet? If not, it's only a matter of time before it's rolled out across the board.

Tip: Make sure your personal Profile is linked to your Page!

This is a great opportunity to spread the word about your Facebook Page among your Facebook Friends (on your personal Profile). I'm always surprised when I see bloggers neglecting this easy way to cross-promote.

At the top of your Profile, there is an About section. For example, here's what you'd find on my personal Profile:

facebook about profile

Notice how there's a link there to my Facebook page.

How to link your Facebook personal Profile to your Facebook Page:

1. Login to Facebook.

2. Click on your name in the top right corner of your screen to get to your Timeline.

3. Find your About section in the left column under your profile picture.

4. Hover over it until you see the pencil icon in the top right corner of the box. Click. Then click the "Update Info" link that appears.

4. On the next page, click the "Edit" button in the top right of the Work & Education section.

5. Under Work & Education, add a job. Type in your Facebook Fan Page name into the "Where have you worked?" field. It should pull up your page in a dropdown menu as you type it in. Select it.

6. I put "I spend most of my" in the "Postion" field just to make it a little more interesting, although I'm still playing around with this. (Note that when you save your changes, "at" will be automatically inserted before your Page name.)

7. Click the "I currently work here" box.

8. Save your changes.

Now, if anyone visits my Profile and clicks on the "Amy Lynn Andrews" link from the Timeline, they'll be taken directly to my Page.

Many people have something in there that's rather generic ("self-employed" etc.) and if clicked, it takes the user to a bland page.

Go check your own to (a) see if you have something there for work and (b) see where people are being taken if they follow that link.

While you're there, how about a Like on my Page. I'd love it if you followed!

Comments

  1. I am a fan of both my FB pages and neither of them are popping up. Hmmm…any ideas??

  2. Great idea! Thanks for it. :)

  3. Great tip, I did this as well!

  4. As always, Amy, a great tip and an easy-to-follow step-by-step guide. Thanks for the advice. Took no time to implement.

  5. Just did this. Awesome! Thanks for the tip!!

  6. Thank you for the great tip! :)

  7. i tried to insert the full name but it doesnt work :(

    • You might have to hunt a bit in the list that comes up. Make sure you're spelling it exactly as you have on your page (with spaces etc.).

  8. I had to try a few times, but it worked!

  9. Thanks for the "hit enter" tip – it finally worked for me. YAY! I was so sick of the Facebook-generated fake company page that came up before. People were liking it instead of our actual business page!

  10. Thanks so much for this! I've been wanting to do this for a while , but my page wasn't listed and Facebook wasn't answering my questions. Luckily, Micha's comment helped me out too.

  11. Thanks for the great tip Amy! I'm implementing it right now on my profile page. I really enjoy your tips and suggestions. Thanks again!

  12. Thanks so much for this great tip! Already implemented it!

  13. Great tip! Thanks! :)

  14. Hello Amy,

Hey wanted to say thank you for all the great articles. I really enjoy them and contrary to some opinions I have learned something about blogging.

I too had to type in the entire name of my FB page right down to the apostrophe.

Have you written any thing on the "eBay Seller App" that post every item you're selling on eBay to your FB page and on all your FB family and friends pages?

I just started selling on eBay and somehow authorized the "eBay Seller" app to install on my FB page. I first realized that it was installed when a friend asked me to take her off the notification list.

I am sure that I probably absentmindedly authorized the app, but once I saw it in action decided that it was not something I wanted. My family and friends don't need to get a notification about what I post for sale on eBay on their FB wall.

  15. Awesome. Thanks!

  16. Amy, when I post something from my website on Facebook, the link ends with "The Abundant Wife/The Abundant Wife" every time. I don't know how to make that go away. It didn't do it originally, but now it does it every time. Do you know how to get rid of it? http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Abundant-Wife/252670221411624

  17. What a great idea!

  18. Thanks Amy! I had actually done this without knowing how good it was for me! :D
    This is very encouraging!

  19. Hi Amy

I am about to launch my blog and business so finally made a FB page today. I was excited to use this tip I had put aside for this time, but it would not work no matter how many ways I tried. The message that comes up says "Creating content with this name is not allowed" – has FB decided not to allow this now?

    Thanks,
    deb

    • Hmmm…I don't think there's a problem since I wrote the post. I'd try googling it or searching FB help/support to see if others have had that problem. Google something like "Creating content with this name is not allowed on Facebook."

    • I had the same problem come up. I went back and created a user name for my page and was hopeful, but it still won't link properly. Did you find a solution?

      • I'm still not sure why you wouldn't be able to do this unless maybe your page is not yet published??

        • Success! I fiddled around with it and got it to work. Thanks Amy!

          • Julie . . what did you "fiddle" with . . having the same problem and am finding it maddening.

          • Kirsten says:

Having the same problem here, what did you do to get it to work?

          • Julie. . . please help! :) I have the same problem . . I believe I have tried everything that I can think of. . . can you remember what you fiddled with?

          • Matt and Kristen, I wish I knew what the "magic step" was at the time. You might try deleting all of your employment and starting over with your fan page as the first employer. Be sure that you have "liked" your own fan page so that it will pop up and create the link. I typed in my fan page name exactly as it's registered, and it gave me the option with the photo. I sympathize with those "maddening moments" … am sure I have a new one coming my near future. Good luck!

  20. It took me forever. I finally had to cut and paste it and for some reason that somehow worked. Thanks for the tip.

  21. This is a great idea! Now just to make my website's Facebook page. Thanks for all the advice.

  22. I tried this and it worked right away. Unfortunately, my "real" job is no longer listed. I hope they don't think I quit! Is there a way to post both your classroom job and your website?

  23. GREAT idea thanks so much!! Just did mine! :)

  24. I had to change my business category from "personal blog" to "local business" in order for the link to show up. So perhaps a personal blog isn't recognized as a real business? If others are still having trouble, maybe changing your business category will work (from your page -> edit info -> basic information -> change category).

  25. Yay! I already done did that! At least that's one thing I'm up on!

  26. Thanks so much for the information :)

  27. So glad you linked back to this article this month, Amy. Once again – a simple switch I needed to make that you addressed.

  28. Life is meeting the right people at the right moment, I'm very glad i run into your website, I was manifesting it and voila…… You are good and very helpfull. Thank you…o GRACIAS ;O)

  29. Thanks for the tip. I have a friend who asked me a while back how come my blog was not listed on my personal face book page bio. I added it to the about section but never thought to make it my job! Now it is! took a few minutes but it looks great! Awesome tip!

  30. I have that link going to my blog. Is there a way to have another link that takes people to my author fanpage?
    https://www.facebook.com/Lucille.Zimmerman.Author

  31. Thanks so much for explaining this – it was a snap to do. And I'm bookmarking your blog right now so I can learn everything you want to teach.

  32. great tips!
    Thanks a lottt.

  33. I am trying to edit the names of my businesses on facebook and it will not allow me to edit the names . I want to separate them becasue I do not want them associated. How can I do this? I want to do as you are suggesting to give each an identity.

  34. Hi, Amy
When setting up my new blog, I will also set up Facebook. I have my own personal page. I am unclear re. your suggestions. I'd like to keep my Private profile separate from my Blog FP account so…….should I set up a FB acct. in my blog's name? OR……do I keep my personal acct. and add blog info., etc?

    Thanks again!

  35. I've only discovered this post now and want to say a huge thanks for this great tip! I'd been really unhappy with my "Works At" description on my personal page, as I am building my own business and want to promote it! This was so simple and did the job :)

  36. Thanks, Amy! Love your tips. :)

  37. Amy thanks for the great tip ! So simple yet a great way to promote your business. Your blog has been instrumental in helping my learn how to create a website for my business ! Thanks again !

  38. It took a couple of attempts. I believe I didn't hit the Save button the first time thinking it had been "updated". Anyway, it's done!
    Thanks!
    Smythe

  39. Thanks again, Amy!

  40. Hello
You have a very informative and interesting page. If you don't mind, could you lend me some tips and criticism?

  41. You are so helpful, Amy!

  42. Excellent tip! I recently decided to go "all in" and start naming my occupation as a blogger, so this is a perfect way to do so on Facebook! :-)

  43. Hey Amy. Do you have a recommendation on what type page (out of the six) a blogger like me should create? Thank you!
