How to Make Your About Page a Little More Killer

How to Write a Killer About Page has been a rather popular post here on BWA.

In it I mentioned my preferred structure for an About page as well as some tips to get visitors to stay a while.

Something else to add

One thing I didn't mention in that post, however, was putting your email signup form on your About page.

I don't have much else to say other than that: consider putting your email sign-up form directly in the body of your About page. Just work it right in. (Here's mine if you'd like to see how I did it.) Go ahead, just outright invite them to subscribe.

Speaking of which…

Have you signed up for my emails in the sidebar? It's easy peasy! It's free and you can unsubscribe at any time (privacy policy). I'd love it if you did!

How do you put your email inbox on your About page?

If you use FeedBurner, simply log in, choose your feed name, click on the Publicize tab at the top of the page –> Email subscriptions (left column) –> Subscription Management.  (If you use a service other than FeedBurner, check the Help or Support sections for directions.)

Copy and paste that snippet of code in the HTML tab when you are creating or editing your About page.

  1. Thanks so much! Amazing as always! Just spent the past hour updating my About Me Page, incorporating your suggestions! Can't thank you enough! :-)

  2. Thanks, Amy. Just got it done. :)

  3. Hey, Amy – I got a question – i have a couponing website – and part of the reason i had started it is because couponing had gotten me out of over $30,000 debt – i would think that's personal enough for me to share with my readers and followers – would that go at the end, or do i leave it out alltogether?

    • That's awesome! I think it would be a great tidbit to include wherever it seemed to work. If you haven't written the story in a post(s), I would do that and link to the post(s) on your About page.

  4. Thanks Amy! Just put mine in.
btw, loved your last video…so real! I can TOTALLY RELATE! It's like you read my mind.

  5. Wow! looks like I know what I am going to be spending tomorrow afternoon on, my about page is simply a rambling on about me. I just got back from reading yours and I think I am going to go back and polish mine. Thanks for the great tips!

  6. I just did it! Woohoo! I did notice that yours, though, was a smaller box and doesn't have "delivered by feedburner" and mine does? Should I not copy the whole code to get it smaller like that?

  7. Hmmm…. Makes me think I might need to rework my About page a bit. Thanks for all the good info!

  8. I love this idea, however the box is rather large when I paste it. Is that because it's taking the size of where I'm posting? (It is at the bottom of a page) I tried to rework it but to no avail. Help!

  9. Crossed that off my to do list, thanks Amy.
Side note, I just refereed someone to Blogging With Amy this morning. That is probably about the 6th time. What a resource you are.

  10. I just used the feedburner tip to place my subscriber box in a bondi band giveaway I am starting tomorrow on my blog. It worked perfectly and should make it very simple for people to subscribe. Thanks for the great tip! I love your site! it gives me courage and hope!

  11. I have been using feedburner successfully since my blog went live in January. I have feedburner scheduled to send out emails between 3 and 5 am. So far it has worked perfectly. This morning, feedburner is showing my most current post in the current feed, but it didn't send out the email update. Do you know how I can fix this issue? or… do you think that it is just a glitch with feedburner that I need to wait out? Thanks for your help. This site has been a lifesaver over the last few months! :)

  12. Great idea to add the e-mail sign up in the About Page. Done. Thanks!! :)

  13. I have to tell you how much I appreciate YOU! Your tutorials are easy to follow – I just added an email sign up box to my about page. Never thought I could do that!

  14. Finally got around to making my about page sticky today! Also played around with the order of things, making sure I put the most important first, instead of last. Thanks to your tips I added the email subscription box a while ago. Thanks for such great tips. I have a question though, and perhaps I just have not found the right article yet (I am slowly working through your archives) how do people get the box in their side bars that shows a profile picture of themselves, as well as a small bio, and then there "social buttons" (facebook, pintrest etc.) I really like the look of it, but cannot figure out how to do it.

    • Hi Victoria! You can just use a text widget and type in your bio. You can also add your image there as well. If you aren't familiar with HTML, my suggestion is to type your bio and insert your image in the blog post editor (don't publish of course). The, switch to the Visual tab to grab the HTML and paste it into a text widget. Hope that helps!

  15. Hi Amy–
Love your blog! I just visited Feedburner to see if I could do this, and I don't see anything like what you describe. Was this written before Google took over? Any tips on what to do with a Google/Feedburner page?
    Thanks!

  16. I haven't got any information with that. Got today thanks Amy.
