There are gazillions of sites on the internet. It's getting increasingly difficult to not get lost in the crowd. If traffic is something you want to build, standing out is key.
On Problogger, Tom Treanor recently wrote Charles Darwin’s 12 Rules of Blogging Survival. He offers several ideas that might help you narrow in on a good strategy for you.
The bottom line is, the biggest mistake you can make is to find a blog you like and duplicate it. Don't just "do what they do." You absolutely must find a way to differentiate yourself from everyone else. Not sure how to do that?
Take note of the blogs you like. Get some ideas from others.
Then be funnier. Or be more serious.
Be more personal. Or be a better expert.
Be more focused. Or be more broad.
Be more organized. Or be more spontaneous.
But be more…you.

i am still working on this. hopefully, people will like my added 2 cents, opinions and tips, on the deals i post. thanks for encouraging me to be me. It is something I have struggled with since junior high!
Good advice! I love to read other blogs and get great ideas. Thanks for always sharing your wisdom. Have a blessed day!
"Be more … you." Love this!
this lesson from relevant rang true with what I have felt called to do. Not everyone loves traditional with-a-twist, sophisticated home decorating, or even lessons in how to decorate with what you love,… but for those who do… my passions will ring true. One of the things I LOVE about blogging is that it is the PERFECT place to be yourself and share what YOU love.
Great post.
I agree, Darlene. I love how blogging allows so much room to BE!
I would say that's true for me too sometimes.
This is so true. One of my blogs just wasn't taking off; when I made a change to the personality of it (i.e. injecting my own) it started picking up.
Thanks for the tips!
Woohoo!
Thanks. I was just talking to my husband about this last night. I read stuff on blogging everywhere and the more I look, the more options there are out there for generating traffic or organizing, but I truely like what I am doing and I don't want to change. I am trying to be ok with the fact that everyone doesn't have to like my blog. If I have opinions I might offend someone and not everyone is going to be interested in the same stuff as me. But to copy others and not really stand out and share myself goes against everything I want as a person or for my blog.
"I am trying to be ok with the fact that everyone doesn't have to like my blog."
Yes, me too!
thanks Amy, this is wisdom!
