How to Post to Your WordPress Blog from Anywhere on the Web

So do you ever come across something while surfing online that you'd like to write a quick post about? Well, with the Press This bookmarklet in WordPress, you can do just that, easy peasy.

  1. Find the Press This bookmarklet under "Tools" in your Dashboard
  2. Click & drag the Press This bookmarklet to your bookmarks toolbar (or your bookmarking tool of choice)
  3. Now, when you find something you want to post about while surfing, simply click Press This in your bookmarks toolbar and write your post!

  1. Tammy :

    Great tip!

  2. Mike :

I think I am falling in love with your blog. I've been designing sites for years and yours is layed out beautifully and you have such great content! Kudos and thank you!

  3. BRILLIANT! I've seen it advertised but never worked out how to use it!

A question for you – what do you do if you have two blogs?

  4. Super cool!

  5. I had never seen the Press This tool before your post. Great tip – thanks!

  6. Thanks Great tip:)))

  7. Thank you, Amy. That was helpful – the video really clarified it. I had seen it but didn't know what the thing was. Because my blog was designed by someone way smarter than me, I'm usually reluctant to try anything else. This one won't mess anything up on my blog – Yea!

  8. Had to come back to say this is wonderful! I've 'written' and posted in about 5 minutes. I have so many great posts that I want to share with folks so this is going to make such a difference. I have solved the 'two blogs' situation – I have 2 icons on my bookmark bar!

  9. Wonderful! Thanks so much for the video showing how this works. I can't wait to use it.

  10. Love this, Amy! This tool is amazing!! Like Pinterest for WordPress/blogging! :)

  11. Wow! Thank you so much for this (video) tip! I never really knew how to use this very useful tool. I do now!

  12. Wow – Thank you so much! I can't believe I have been blogging without using this tool. I have recently started using Word Press, and I obviously still have a lot to learn.

I have also recently discovered Pinterest. It is a great way to categorize and bookmark ideas you find while blog surfing.

  13. Deb :

Thanks for such a user-friendly explanation (as usual – you rock!). I've had the "press this" button on my toolbar for months, but never used it because I didn't know what it was for! :D I use Windows Live Writer more often than anything because it's so much easier to upload photos that way, and sometimes getting offline completely is necessary when my internet "research" gets too distracting!

  14. Amy, I am sure you are the Queen of bloggin tips!! Thank You!

  15. Mark :

This is very cool and helpful. Do you know of a way that I can post to my website from my mobile phone or from hootsuite or posterous? I use both for quick posts to facebook and twitter and would love to be able to just post directly to my wordpress website blog. Both of those sites let me post to a wordpress.com blog, but not to a wordpress.org blog.

    thanks!

  16. Do you have any idea why I wouldn't be able to use this tool? It simply won't click or drag anywhere?
    Thanks
    Shari

  17. I was able to save it but when I go to use it, my blog comes up and then has an 404 error code. Any ideas ? I have wordpress 3.2.1 .. thanks..
