As you know, Facebook automatically creates a thumbnail image from your profile pic which it displays next to your posts on Facebook:
Sometimes the thumbnail it creates though, cuts off vital pieces of the image or makes it look otherwise awkward.
Many people don't realize this can be edited. Here's a quick video explaining how to do so:
Can't see the video? Watch How to Edit Your Facebook Thumbnail Image.
Video Notes
Here are the steps in the process:
- Click the "Edit Page" from your Facebook Page Wall or the "Edit Profile" button from your personal profile (it works on both).
- In the left column, click "Profile Picture".
- Click "Edit Thumbnail" underneath your photo.
- Hover over the image that pops up. Click and drag to create a new thumbnail.
- Save!
Wanna "like" my page? I'd be much obliged. I share more tips there than I do here! Check it out…

Do you know, is there a way to edit the thumbnail that shows up on your wall when you "like" a post. I get such random images from blogs that I "like." It's a bummer to want to share a good read and then have the thumbnail be totally obscure.
Unfortunately, there's no simple way at this point (that I know of).
If you're feeling ambitious, you can look here.
Hey Amy –
Weird questions but here they go:
1) what tool do you use to make the graphics (the arrows) that say "thumbnails" in this post.
2) i have fidgeted with the facebook social plugin on my site all weekend but i can't get it to be small sized like yours and ONLY show the people, and not the whole stream as well — see here for what i mean: http://savingnaturally.com/
3) is there a way to get comments ABOVE the post in thesis that you know of?
thank, as ever;)
Great questions!
1. Skitch. Love it. (For Macs only though.)
2. Try the "Like Box" here instead of the plugin.
3. Hmmm…that I don't know. I've never been a Thesis user, but I'm sure the code can be edited somehow. You might try the Thesis forums?
You rock Amy!
And yes — of *course* I use a mac!!
Hi Amy! I am learning so much from you- You're fabulous! I can't seem to figure out how to edit the thumbnail that shows up when I share a blog post on Facebook, any suggestions? Thanks!
Try the Facebook Like Thumbnail plugin.
Whoo-hoo! Thank you so much Amy. I have been racking my brain and trying everything.
