How to Choose & Make the Most of Keywords for SEO

I just came across this post from Think Traffic: The Simple SEO Strategy You Can Build an Empire Around (Complete With Beginner’s Intro to SEO) and I'm simultaneously excited and bummed!!

Excited because FINALLY someone who explains it well. Bummed because I wish I had this when I first started…or even last week! Ha! I've given you a very basic crash course on keywords, but this has got to be one of the best guides I've seen with step-by-step instructions — how to choose them and how to use them for SEO.

I realize it may feel a bit overwhelming for beginners, but I think it's still worth the read. You may not get everything, but I know you'll be able to pick up a few key ideas and concepts. (And if your head is swirling and you just don't think you can fit in another thing, bookmark it, or come back here :) when you want to finally figure this keyword thing out!)

Is there a guide or post that finally made the process of choosing keywords clear for you? I'm always looking for more resources, so let me know!

  1. I haven't read it yet but head is swirling just thinking about it. I have to say I am overwhelmed! It seems like everyday there is something new that "has to be done" in order to get yourself at the top of the list.

I realize now after seeing some stats from other people who are successful at it that we are doing a lot better than I thought and just need to streamline everything but….my mind does feel like it's about to explode with new info.

I'm amazed at how I was gone "only" two years and everything has changed but a lot of it is so much easier to do now like using WordPress instead of Dreamweaver. :-)

BTW, I didn't do much for 2 years but our sales went up and no one even noticed I wasn't around much because of wonderful things like scheduling posts.Of course hubby and mom were working. Gotta love the Internet!!

  2. the bulk of what i've read says just write naturally and you'll end up with the right keyword density and volume of synonyms so i just write and don't worry about that part of seo too much.

  3. Hey Amy, thanks for the shout out! I wasn't sure if that article came across as clearly as I wanted. SEO doesn't have to be a complicated topic. There are just so many experts out there working on optimizing the smallest details or waxing poetic about the latest search technologies that it can be a little daunting. But the basics are really easy to pick up. And by applying the 80/20 rule, you can get a lot of benefit just from knowing the fundamentals.

Thanks again! I'm glad to have found your blog. It looks like we have a lot in common with our topics.

  4. This is fantastic!!
