Update: Our slots are full! However, it's possible we might do this again sometime in the future. If you would like us to contact you if we do, you can still email me as indicated in the post.
So are you still on the fence about switching from Blogger to WordPress? I've been chatting with Joy and we've come up with a deal:
:: I will install and set up WordPress for you for free (if you use my hosting affiliate link).
:: Joy will do the Blogger to WordPress transfer for you for $125 (a $25 discount).
Note: This deal does not include blog design or theme customization, just installation and out-of-the-box design.
We've got 5 slots ONLY!
First come, first served. If you're interested, simply email me at bloggingwithamy[at]gmail[dot]com with "Migration Deal" in the subject line. The first 5 emails I receive will be the ones we take. (I will also put the next 5 on a waiting list if desired.)
How it will work:
So once you have received an email back from me telling you that you've grabbed one of the spots, here's how the process will go:
1. Your part:
- Register a domain here (if you don't already have one).
- Purchase hosting here. (The plan you choose depends on the size of your blog. I recommend purchasing the smallest plan you think you need; you can always upgrade later. For small blogs, Hatchling or Baby are sufficient at first. Go with Baby if you have more than one domain.)
- Optional: Purchase the Genesis Child Theme of your choice here (the Genesis framework is included with any of the Child Themes). I will install the Genesis framework and then guide you through installing your child theme. It's easy peasy.
- When I'm ready to begin, I'll have you forward your login info from HostGator and Genesis to me so I can set you up!
2. My part:
- Install WordPress for you on your server.
- Set it up with the basics including your blog name, your tagline (if applicable) and your email address. I will also insert a list of pinging services and change your permalink structure (basically everything in this post).
- Install and activate the plugins in this post (with the exception of Akismet which is now a paid-for plugin. Instead, I will install G.A.S.P. which also fights spam but is free).
- If you purchased Genesis, I will install the framework as well. I will then direct you through installing the child theme of your choice. (If you choose not to go with Genesis, the default WordPress template, TwentyTen, will be used.)
3. Tossing it back to you…your part:
- Set up your sidebars how you would like them. (You can read How to Use WordPress Widgets for instructions.)
- Tweak your design until you're happy with it. You can follow all of my tips and tutorials to help.
4. Joy's part:
- Import Blogger posts and comments.
- Fix internal permalinks.
- Redirect your Blogger blog to your new blog (so there's no duplicate content and visitors who land on your Blogger blog are automatically sent to your new one).
- Make sure that incoming links to your posts, including Google searches, are redirected properly to your WP blog.
- Update your FeedBurner feed.
- Point your domain to your new blog.
What will it cost you?
The least it will cost you is $135 which includes your first month of hosting and the migration from Blogger to WordPress. It might be more, however, depending on what you need and what you choose. Here are the options (required costs indicated by *):
- Domain (optional) = $20 (for a year)
- *Hosting = $8 (for your first month)
- Genesis (optional) = $80
- WordPress Installation = $0 (I will set you up for free if you use my affiliate link for hosting and Genesis if applicable)
- *Migration = $125 (that's a $25 discount off of Joy's regular price)
The minimum you'll need to pay for is hosting and Joy's $125 discounted fee to complete the migration. Again, please note, this deal does not include blog design or theme customization. We will simply install the theme of your choice (Genesis or TwentyTen) out of the box.
How to get the deal
If this sounds like a deal you'd like to take advantage of, simply email me (bloggingwithamy @ gmail . com) with "Migration Deal" in the subject line. The first 5 emails I receive will be the ones we take. (I will also put the next 5 on a waiting list if they'd like.)
If you've been thinking about making the switch, this would be an excellent time to do so but hurry!
Any questions?

I HIGHLY recommend letting these ladies do your transfer! Joy did my transfer and Amy basically did the rest for me (although she might not know it LOL. Her blog is a WEALTH of information). Jump on this if you are contemplating moving y'all!
Thanks so much, Heather, for your vote of confidence!
We dont have the $ to hire someone to migrate us at this time. So I am going to try it on my own! A ? So can I set up the wrdpress page (get all the widgets and sidebars in place) witout having it be on my domain name? I want to keep blogger up at the .com address untill I feel like I am ready to move the posts over to wordpress.
Yes. If you use Bluehost or HostGator (affiliate links), they will give you a temporary URL to use for your new site. In the meantime, you blog as usual on your old one.
We actually are going through GoDaddy ( got hosting and domain for $57 for the first year!). So I will see if they offer the temp URL too. Thanks
I have not used GoDaddy for hosting (only domain registration). Unfortunately, I frequently read not-so-good reviews about GoDaddy's hosting service. For that reason, I would be sure to ask lots of questions and understand exactly where to find help (such as a FAQ page or Help Section) if you need it. If you just signed up and want to get out of it, you may be able to ask for a refund. You might also stick with it a while and ask if they will prorate a refund if you decide later to move. I hope it works out though!!
I signed up with them quite awhile back and about 3 weeks into it I realized I was over my head. They actually called me to verify my account and when I mentioned I wouldn't be using them, they offered a full refund because I was still within my initial 30 days. That was many months ago, but it's worth a shot to ask.
Yes, I definitely wouldn't hesitate to ask if needed!
