I know a lot of you appreciate real help from real bloggers. Me too! So many bloggers are so gracious in sharing their experience and their expertise.
I thought I'd share this recorded Google+ Hangout in which DIY bloggers Beckie (Infarrantly Creative, Knock Off Decor and Roadkill Rescue) and Brooke (All Things Thrifty) join Court (PostRunner) to answer some questions from Beth (Sawdust & Embryos).
Here are Beth's questions (and the time in the video where she asks them):
- How do I network with blogs similar in size with mine and how do I find them? (2:16)
- How do I get my blog on blogrolls? (19:00)
- What are the top 3 ways to get my blog noticed in a search engine? (25:40)
- Is Google just looking at the content of your posts or does it notice when I post on Facebook? (37:20)
- Can you summarize what AdWords means, explain the concept and how to use them effectively? (39:00)
And a few more questions at the end from people watching the Hangout:
- Can I change a permalink? (54:00)
- What's the difference between keywords and AdWords? (55:10)
Can't see the video? Watch it here.
So much of their discussion was helpful. My favorite part was Question #5 in which Court does a screenshare of working with the very popular-among-bloggers Google AdWords Keyword Tool.
The term "keyword" gets thrown around quite a bit in the blogging world (as I have done in How to Create Links: Use Anchor Text to Boost SEO, What is Search Engine Optimization and Why Does it Matter? and Blogging DO: Use keywords in your content). Court gives a nice overview of how it works and how you can use it to find good keywords for your blog.
You can join the next Better Blogging with Beckie, Brooke and Court Hangout on Thursday, December 13 from 8:00 to 9:00 pm (CST).

Thanks for sharing this Amy! I feel like I am getting a crash course in the blogging business that I wouldn't necessarily think about right away.
Awesome, Jenna!
I absolutely love how you made this share about 1,000X more useful by pointing out at what point in the video what questions would be answered.
This puts audio or video on the same level of usefulness with blog post where I can scan the page, sort by sub-headlines and dive into exactly what content I deem most relevant to me at this point in time.
I DEFINITELY think this little "Specific Minute Table of Contents" consideration in service to the viewer or listener is THE key to getting more of your perfect prospects to consume your audio or video content.
Thank you Amy for helping me see something that I must use in the future.
You're welcome. Glad it was helpful.
Thanks for sharing this Amy. I like the idea of having a weekly call with a key group of friend/bloggers to be able to exchange ideas and information. That would be very helpful to learn new things. And it would be great to keep you connected so that you don't feel like you're doing this all alone.
Thanks for posting the video – I would have never found it on my own. It was quite good and I learned a few things (which is always good).
Monica.
I thought it was good as well. And I learned a few things too!
This was really educational! Definitely looking forward to picking up more tips from these seasoned pros at future hangouts.
Amy,
Thanks so much for posting this blog. I cannot get to my computer fast enough to start using all the new information I just learned.
Glad it's helpful!
Amy, thank you for all your valuable information. I'm learning so much. Little by little I'll be applying your tips. This video is great! Thank you.
You're welcome, Sandra. Thanks for reading.
I tried to watch it but was very distracted by the sister pounding away on the keyboard. Thanks for the effort.
Great video! So helpful and full of info and idea's. More of these types of videos would be welcome.
