A status update

Hey there, I promise I have not abandoned you! Here's a quick status update:

  1. The bulk of my computer time on a daily basis currently is spent working myself out of a job. As many of you know, I have been working with Crystal at MoneySavingMom.com since April. I have had a blast, but have decided to phase out of that position in order to focus on the stuff I've got planned for 2011. Crystal and I are still on excellent terms and I'll remain on in a consulting role, but I'm in the process of handing my tasks over to my outstanding replacement. (I suspect I'll be talking about this more in my Behind the Scenes Newsletter at some point. Sign up to get it here!)
  2. Speaking of the Behind the Scenes Newsletter…that's due out in the next few weeks. Yeehaw!
  3. Ebooks, ebooks, ebooks. The How to Write an Ebook series is coming, I promise. Just when I think I've got it down, I learn something new. Learned something KEY the other day!!

In the meantime, I leave you with this. Here's a hint as to what's coming up for me in 2011…

What does the below infographic mean for me?

It means I'm not focusing on Facebook as a business opportunity nearly enough.

  1. Amy, I'm really looking forward to your info about creating an ebook, and I love the facebook info you just shared here. Any tips for marketing more successfully on facebook, other than having the fb share button available on each blog post? Is there more I can do?

    xoxo

    • Amy :

I'm going to dive into Facebook marketing over the next few months, so if I come up with anything good, I'll pass it along. ;)

  2. Wow, those stats are mind-boggling!

I'm sure Crystal will miss working closely with you – the two of you seem to have a sweet friendship and working relationship. It's exciting to see where God's leading you, and apparently a piece of that is Relevant, right? Fun!

    • Amy :

Thank you Susan. Yes, I'll be at Relevant. Will you? I enjoyed chatting and brainstorming with you at Relevant 10.

I am very grateful for Crystal and have learned so much from her. We have had a wonderful time working together.

      • I don't think I'll be there this year. We're expecting baby #3 late July, so my guess is I'll just be getting back into the groove by then. =)

So glad I got to go last year, and so fun to meet you and many other fine ladies who love the Lord and love to blog!

  3. I knew Facebook was big, but not THAT big! I guess I better go log into my account!

Though I'm still not sure how better utilize it? Any tips?

  4. As one of the twelve out of thirteen people NOT on FB, I find the info graphic fascinating. And scary. BEFORE they get out of bed or first thing in the morning? Wow. That's some dedication/obsession. If I join FB, am I going to turn into a FB addict like that? Will I want to forget coffee and my daily quiet time and just go straight to FB? Now that I'm integrating back into American society (after being in a country where FB is blocked), I am amazed at how prevalent it is in conversations. If you don't watch TV or use FB, you don't fully understand about 30% of daily conversations.

Anyway, I admit I am resistant to joining FB. Maybe it's the rebel in me. Maybe it's the fear of the "crack-like" attraction. It's definitely the privacy issues and a small tinge of wondering, "Is FB the anti-christ?"

I did start a FB fan page for my second blog, but I can't figure it out at all. I keep trying to add a widget to my blog, but it doesn't link to my fan page. Weird. I will revisit that later. Maybe you will teach us here.

I also am working on an Ebook, and I've been eagerly awaiting your posts.

  5. i am so encouraged by the fb stats! i get fb. i like it a lot and use it. struggle with twitter. hate the character limits.
look forward to hearing what you have to say re fb. i have a page for my blog but don't know how to maximize it. this is all good news:)
are there stats for more than just over 35 demographic? surely they aren't lumping EVERYONE over 35 into the same basket!

  6. My Facebook page is consistently my biggest source of referrals for my blog.

Of course, my blog is still small potatoes, but it's definitely been a significant source of readers.

One of the many fascinating things about Facebook is that while it's this amazing business tool, it really wasn't meant to be used as businesses and doesn't really function like one in many ways-if your blog page has a technical issue don't expect to find anyone at FB to help you-or even any way to contact them!
One piece of advice: The minute you set up your FB page give someone trustworthy admin privileges. This way is something goes wrong with your account it won't torpedo your page.

The other interesting thing is that sometimes if it's really "hopping," at my fb page, the numbers will be down at the actual blog! So, it's a balance….

    • Amy :

I think you bring up a good reminder to have login info etc. available much like you would other important information in case something happens.
