A Simple Yet Brilliant Way to Increase Facebook Engagement

Want to get more engagement from fans on your Facebook page? This is a great tip. And easy to implement (those are my favorite kind).

Facebook logoIt comes from Pat at Smart Passive Income in his post 10 Creative Ways to “Level-Up” Your Presence on Facebook.

4. Fill in the Blanks

One thing I love to do is ask people to fill in a blank.

It’s a creative way to ask a question and seek engagement that mimics the idea of a telephone ringing – people just can’t NOT answer it.

Plus, it’s quick and easy for people to insert just one or two words into a comment, and it’s also fun and easy to read everyone else’s answers too.

What you want on Facebook is for people to comment! Why? Because when they comment, it goes into their feed and therefore is more visible than if they only Like something.

I'm definitely going to try this.

  2. Ilze :

Genius ! Just love your blog. Definitely trying and visiting yours to see what 's the blank …!!!

  3. Very nice – I am going to try a few of these this week! Especially the fill in the blank and directing people to my facebook page. I might ask them to comment on a post as well. Thanks! I don't get tons of emails yet, but they are growing. :) .

  4. I just tried this – I'll let you know how it goes!

  6. I'm so going to try this. My FB page needs a lot of attention and TLC right now. Thanks, Amy!

  7. ooh. good idea!! will be trying this one!

  8. Thanks for the reminder. I need to do this, too. I've also heard of Fill-in-the-Blank Friday, so it's sort of an anticipated feature thing by followers.

  9. What a great idea! Now I just need to set up a Facebook page for my blog. ;)

  10. Pat :

Thanks for sharing my tip Amy! I hope everyone here gets some more interactions on their FB page as a result! Happy Holidays to you and your beautiful audience!

  11. Pat's blog is great! I enjoy his emails….he is an inspiration. :-) Great tip! Will try it soon.

  12. So do you think this is more or less effective if your Facebook page posts get tweeted? I'm thinking less…

  13. I have pretty great engagement on my fb page….at least, I think I do…what's a good engagement rate? Maybe I should have asked that first! :)

Anyway, I find I get the most feedback from asking advice, and I also like to invite readers to share…Like, "What's the funniest thing your kids have said this week?"

  14. Love it! Just put this to the test with my business facebook page!

  15. I do this on occasion and I find that when I do I ALWAYS get responses. No one has ever left a blank empty! Love it, thanks for reminding me. I need to do more of this!

  16. Love all your help. I have a question on this (for Amy or anyone else who knows more than me)

How soon can I set up a facebook page? I just have a little blog that I am trying to grow but I am afraid that if I have a facebook page that no one is subscribed to it will almost look worse than if I didn't have one.

    Thoughts?

    • Amy :

You can set one up right away! In fact, my advice is to get one going sooner rather than later since it takes some time to find your FB rhythm. Once you get 25 followers, don't forget to get a vanity URL.
