I have two little sick munchkins today which hasn't allowed me the time to get my normal Tuesday post published.
I'm detouring a bit
I have been posting my Lessons in Blogging and Business series (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6 and Part 7) but my plan is to take a break from that and post about what I've learned through this whole ebook process!
It's now been over a month since I launched it and I finally feel like I can speak with a tiny bit of authority on the topic! (Plus, many of you have told me you are eager to hear what I've learned.)
So, stay tuned…I plan to post on Thursday. Hopefully everyone will be well by then!
But I digress…
One way to get more subscribers
In place of my longer post today, I thought I'd post this great quick tip!
If you'd like to increase your subscribers, consider offering a free ebook (or something similar) only accessible via your feed.
The way you would do this is use a plugin like RSS Footer. You can install RSS Footer via your Dashboard in WordPress (here's a video tutorial explaining how).
If you'd like to see how it works in real life, check out my friend Lynn's blog who is offering a 23-page ebook called Quick & Easy Recipes for Holiday Entertaining.

Here at BloggingWithAmy you'll find tips, tools & tutorials about blogging and websites. In plain English. Want to
Amy do you think this is the better way to go rather than having a newsletter signup through something like Aweber and offering a freebie for signing up to that? Just weighing my options. Thanks!
Hi Laura, if you have the option, I would definitely recommend building your email subscriber list before your RSS subscriber list.
However, I know lots of bloggers use FeedBurner, and being able to connect directly with email subscribers can't really been done very easily in that case.
Managing an email list really is best done with a paid service and since many bloggers (beginners especially) are bootstrappin' it, I think building your RSS subscribers is a great idea until you get to a point when you can go with Aweber or FeedBlitz.
THANK YOU so much for the RSS footer mention. I just looked it up and installed it. I've been wondering how to have a little blurb on the end of my RSS feed.
Great tip!! I was curious about this as well. Now creating a Ebook, that is the real question, or have you done tutorials on that as well?
Just wanted to let you know that the link to Lynn's landing page isn't the right one.
Ah! Thank you!!! Fixed it.
{smacks head}
I hope I got it right, it's the green box where we enter the e-mail? If so, it looks really great.
I guess we need to use every possible opportunity to get people to stick around. I will have to give it a go
I'm guessing this is only available as a wordpress plugin? I'm thinking about moving but still am in blogger. Is there more available to blogger than I know of?
Blogger, while a great free service, is a bit limited when it comes to things like this. You might try googling it to see if you can find any workarounds!
Hey Amy! I just installed RSS footer, but it isn't showing up. Does it take awhile?
I just spent all morning trying to figure out how to get a free downloadable available only to email subscribers — I KNEW you'd tell me how!! Thank you!
Ok am I missing something? Where do you say how to put a free download to subscribers?
