On Facebook the other day, Pop Parables and I had a brief discussion about commenting and how to keep up. (By the way, are you a Liker on my Facebook page? If not, I'd love to hang out with you. Good stuff there.)
So many commenting opportunities, so little time
Anyway, this is how it started:
Hi Amy…I'm struggling in the comment department. I love reading other blogs and commenting, but as a SAHM my time is so limited. I so want to read/comment on the blogs of those who leave comments for me, but I just don't have the time! My blog is growing and the comments are getting more and more. Do you have any suggestions on this issue? You do such a great job of responding to comments and on FB!
She may have been referencing something else I had said on Facebook previously, but man oh man, raise your hand if you can relate to not having enough time! (I'm certainly raising mine.)
Tip #1: Time budget to the rescue!
If you read the thread, you'll see I suggest she allot a specified amount of time on commenting each day, set a timer, go for it and then once the timer goes off, call it good. After all, we can only do what we can do. (Sidenote: This is exactly what I talk about in Tell Your Time…ahem…and I'm trying to practice what I preach!)
Tip #2: Be strategic
Just thought I'd add this second tip as well, though. Maybe it goes without saying, but when there's little time for something, make sure you are doing the right thing and not just something.
One of the tasks I've added to my daily blogging to-do list is to visit 2 or 3 strategic-to-me blogs which I want to make sure I get to in my allotted commenting time. Instead of hopping online and bouncing around from blog to blog, leaving comments here and there, I've picked out a few bloggers with whom I specifically want to build a relationship (a la my 7 traffic tips) and/or on which I hope to guest post someday. It never hurts to be purposeful and forward thinking.
