1000 Subscribers in 2 Months: A Guest Posting, Real-Life Case Study

As I've said, guest posting can be powerful.

Today I came across a video by Jon Morrow, Associate Editor at Copyblogger. He just started a new website, GuestBlogging.com, and is posting videos about how he used guest posting to build his subscriber list from 0 to over 1000 in 2 months. It's a case study.

Caveat: In order to see his videos (other than the intro), you have to subscribe. I subscribed (OK, so I admit, I'm a junkie when it comes to things like this). He has said he will be promoting a product in about a week, but for the next several days, his videos will be content-heavy without any marketing hype.

Jon Morrow is credible and I just watched the first video myself. I can tell you there is some seriously solid info in there with some great, practical tips about how he got the attention of big bloggers, screenshots of his traffic stats and a list of things you can do to take advantage of guest blogging yourself. So, if you're intrigued by the whole guest posting process and would love to hear how someone did it in real life, you might be interested in checking it out.

P.S. I'm not getting anything to promote it for him in case anyone is wondering. I'm just trying to cull through the massive amounts of blogging info out there and presenting you with stuff I think you can really use.

  1. That was an interesting video!!! Thanks! I had an email sitting in my inbox with an invite to guest post on another blog – I wasn't sure if I really have the time – so I was leaning towards a no – then I saw this video – I just sent the email and said "sure!"

So you helped me make my decision – thanks! Keep up the great content here – I'm enjoying it!

  2. I subscribed and watched the video today. It was SO well done and informative. I can't wait for the rest – even if I do get a promo email or ten – it will be worth the information!

  3. Wow! I just watched the intro video and it was really good!

I've visited you blog from time to time but Amy of Amy's Finer Things told me at the sbsummit I needed to follow you and boy was she right! I have learned so much in these last few weeks from you.

    Thank you so much!

  4. I don't know how I originally came across your blog, but I am happy I did.

Most of your posts teach me something new or remind me to get moving on things I know but haven't gotten around to.

    Thank you.

  5. I will have to watch them. We got 1200 sign ups in one day. We wrote a short e-book and gave it for free to a well known freebie site.

  6. Thanks for your helpful blog. I started blogging a few years ago mainly because i saw a niche (didn't call it that then:) I was reading all these "mommy blogs" written by women who were in the middle of raising their children. there were times i felt that a lot of the advise being given reflected that blindspot. i thought that there should be more voices on the web from those who had raised their children!

Since i was busy working with women in the church we were serving at the time, i just blogged occasionally but didn't really get organized about it. now i need to be able to earn money at it in order to quit my day job. The exciting thing about it is that i can enjoy my passion AND blog as well. I've come up with some major themes that i think will wind through the blog with regularity. now if i can finish with all this techy stuff, i just want to WRITE! :) Thanks for your help in my very weak areas. m

  7. Amy,
Im not sure how I came about your website, but so glad I did. I am a middle aged mom with 5 kids ages 4-19 and like Martha who replied earlier, have older kids, as well as a few younger ones at home. Im just beginning my journey of blogging and currently have my website in development. Your website will be very helpful and I look forward to reading more of your posts.

    Amy,
This is the site I have been looking for…So many of my questions have been answered. I want to start a blog soon and I didn't know how to go about doing it. I am learning sooo much and I am so grateful for this site. Keep it up!!!

  9. I just subscribed and hope to watch the video this week. There are so many blogs out there that competing and gaining followers is at this point really hard. I just started my blog 6 months ago and I feel as though I missed the boat. I should have done it 2 to 3 years ago. But I enjoy it and will keep trying to make improvements. I follow your blog and appreciate all the great advice.

    • I think we all have that feeling: If only I had started this before! (I certainly do.) But, it is what it is and the key is to move forward and not get stuck in the past. After all, you're starting now and not 2 years from now, so in that way, you're ahead! ;)

  10. Okay, I was cracking up at my initial instinct as I watched that video. It was something like being transformed back into a freshman in high school – lost in the halls and praying I could find someone I knew to eat lunch with. Oh, to be popular! :) I think the internet will be a little less traumatizing – I hope . . . :)

  11. Thanks for the link, just listening to the 2 free video's he offers before he pitches his course gave me incredible information. I wish I had the money to take his course, it sounds amazing.
